About Murex D'or

The Murex D’Or is a prestigious Lebanese award ceremony that began in 2000, with a legacy spanning 24 editions. Founded by Lebanese physicians Dr. Zahi Helou and Dr. Fadi Helou, the event honors excellence among Lebanese, Arab, and international celebrities in the fields of art, music, television, and film.

The inaugural edition in 2000 focused solely on Lebanese artists, but from the second year onward, the ceremony expanded its scope to embrace a broader Pan-Arab and regional audience.

At the heart of the event is the Golden Murex Trophy, a symbol of distinction awarded to celebrate outstanding achievements and unforgettable performances. The award’s name pays homage to the Phoenician murex, a shellfish known for its rare secretion used to produce the imperial Tyrian purple, also called Ourjouan, a deep rose dye once reserved for royalty. The Phoenicians used this dye on silk, wool, and other fabrics, making it a cornerstone of their trade and cultural identity.

In essence, the Murex D’Or is more than an award! It’s a celebration of artistic brilliance, rooted in Lebanon’s rich Phoenician heritage.
